Yellow Dal
Yellow dal is a comforting and nutritious vegan dish made with yellow lentils and aromatic spices. It's easy to prepare and perfect for a satisfying meal.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup yellow lentils
- 3 cups water
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1-inch piece ginger, grated
- 2 tomatoes, diced
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
- Salt to taste
- Fresh cilantro leaves, for garnish
Instructions:
Run cold water over the lentils until the water is clear
Put the lentils and water in a large pot
Bring to a boil, then lower the heat and let it cook for 20 to 25 minutes, until the lentils are soft
Warm up the olive oil in a different pan over medium-low heat
Put in the mustard and cumin seeds
Let them cook until they begin to pop
Garlic, ginger, and onion should be added to the pan
Cook the onions until they become clear
Add the chili powder, turmeric, coriander, and tomatoes and mix them in
Bring it to a boil again
Mix the cooked lentils in with the tomato sauce
After you stir it well, let it cook for 5 to 10 minutes so the flavors can blend
Add salt to your liking
Before serving, sprinkle with fresh cilantro leaves
